Reverend
Maurice Eugene Brantley born June 25, 1914, in Altoona, Florida, died
July 18, 2008, at Handmaker in Tucson. Rev. Brantley was ordained as a
minister at age 20 and earned degrees from Stetson University and
Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. During his 70 years of
religious ministry, he served as a missionary in Nigeria, a pastor of
churches in Southern Arizona and elsewhere, and a chaplain in Tucson
hospitals. At the time of his death, he was Pastor Emeritus of Sabino
Road Baptist Church. He was also a
retired educator who was Mr.
Brantley to many students at Marana High School and Amphitheater High
School. He is survived by Edna, his wife of almost 48 years;
son,
Maurice; step-children, Judith Allen and Jim Franks; granddaughters,
Jennifer Louis and Juliet Martinez; six great-grandchildren; nieces,
Margaret Chappell, Laura Duncan, Patty Carlen, and Betty Pahula and
nephew, Broward Brantley. He was preceded in death by his first wife,
Louise; stepsons, Mike and Jon Franks; five brothers and sisters and
five nieces and nephews. The family wishes to thank the staffs of
Handmaker Services and Carondelet Hospice Service for the wonderful,
compassionate care they gave Maurice in his last months. A memorial
service for him will be held Thursday, July 31, 11:00 a.m., at ADAIR
FUNERAL HOME, Dodge Chapel, 1050 N. Dodge Blvd. In lieu of flowers,
donations may be made to the Handmaker Foundation, with a designation
