Charlie,

You are welcome to post this on your web.  Had a brief visit with Mr. Evans (woodshop teacher) at the funeral.  He looked great and fun to visit with him.

Take care, Joe Frannea

Class of '63
We lost another of our great teachers this past week, Mr. Murray.  He was able to attend our Friday night event at our recent 40th reunion.
Below is his obituary from the Arizona Daily Star, Wed & Thu papers.

Dick Murray

Richard Y. (Dick) Murray

Passed away July 12, 2004. Dick was born April 20, 1923, in East Orange, NJ to Frank and Elizabeth Murray. He's survived by his loving wife, Helen; his children, Richard (Bobbie); Tim, Cynthia and Rebecca Murray-Lee, as well as seven grandchildren and seven great- grandchildren. He was preceded in death by sons John and Kevin and his daughter, Martha. In his life, Dick overcame many hardships including Polio, which he contracted during WWII. As a dedicated teacher some of his many professional accomplishments included 37 years as Spanish and History teacher at Amphi High School (AHS) and his induction into the AHS Register of Excellence. Recognizing the need to improve conditions in public education Dick co-founded and served as president for the AZ Federation of Teachers Union and was the 1st teacher to be elected a VP of the AZ State AFL-CIO.
In addition to his work as an educator. Dick was a founding member of the Southern AZ American Civil Liberties Union and he worked many years to have Fort Bowie named a National Historic Site. In 1966, Dick took a two year leave of absence from AHS to become Director of the U.S. Bi-National Center in San Pedro Sula, Honduras. As director, Dick helped to bring about the construction of a new Bi-National school and cultural center in San Pedro Sula.

A visitation will be held from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. (Rosary at 7:00 p.m.) Thursday, July 15, 2004 at ADAIR FUNERAL HOME Dodge Chapel, 1050 N. Dodge Blvd. (at Speedway). A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Friday at St. Ambrose Church. Burial will follow at South Lawn Cemetery.

Dick will be missed by many and never forgotten by those whose lives he touched.

Charlie,
Hope you received the Amphi63 reunion highlights mini CD I sent several weeks ago.  below is a note about Earl, I think he was in the class of 61.
Happy New Year.... Joe Frannea

Earl Hindman '61

Earl Hindman plays Tim Taylor's eccentric next-door neighbor Wilson, whose voice of experience and wisdom floats over the backyard fence in response to Tim's questions about manhood and relationships.
Hindman was born in the mining town of Bisbee, Arizona, where he and his family lived on the edge of the world's deepest copper mine. As a boy, he would haunt the local movie theater, where you could see two cowboy pictures, a couple of cartoons, and a serial, all for a dime. He started acting in high school, and studied drama at the University of Arizona in Tucson before going to New York. He made a brief stop in Los Angeles on the way, which was memorable only because he was there when he heard the news of John F. Kennedy's assassination.

Since then, most of Hindman's professional career has been spent on the East Coast. He made his New York debut off Broadway in "Dark of the Moon" with Rue McClanahan and Harvey Keitel, which started him on a string of stage performances. After working for a number of years on and off Broadway and in regional theater, he landed his breakthrough role in 1971 in David Rabe's "The Basic Training of Pavlo Hummel" at the New York Shakespeare Festival's Public Theater.

Hindman's film and television career began to flourish around that time. He landed his first TV role in the late 1960s, in a PBS production of Arthur Miller's "A Memory of Two Mondays." He then embarked on what would become ten seasons with the daytime drama "Ryan's Hope," and has since landed numerous roles in movies and miniseries, including ABC's "War and Remembrance," and "Stay the Night," with Jane Alexander and Barbara Hershey. He also had a recurring role on "The Equalizer."

On film, Hindman was most recently seen in "The Ballad of the Sad Cafe," starring Vanessa Redgrave and Keith Carradine. His credits also include "Talk Radio," "Three Men and a Baby," "Silverado," "Taps," "The Parallax View," "The Taking of Pelham One Two Three," and "Greased Lightning."

As for his role as Wilson on "Home Improvement," the closest Earl had previously come to playing a part behind a fence was when he played the wall (aka Tom Snout) in a production of "A Midsummer Night's Dream." He does, however, share some of Wilson's lone-wolf sensibilities, and twice a year or so he hikes into the woods near his Connecticut home for a few days of solitary camping. "On the third day," he says, "I get this intense craving for a cheeseburger or a cigarette, so I hike ten miles back, having thoroughly enjoyed myself."

Charlie,

Thanks very much for the CD and video of your reunion.  I keep thinking I will take time to sit down and review the material but have been so busy with several projects including getting our formal reunion invitations printed and mailed for our class of '63.  Now I'm off for three weeks to Dallas to help son #1 rebuild his kitchen.  Maybe I'll take it with me as I should have some free time at night.

Thanks again,
Joe Frannea
(note, I have a new email address at earthlink, DSL access is wonderful...)

Charlie, I found the link on your web site to ours about 30 minutes after I sent you the note.  We need to add a link page to ours to do the same.  I like your format not being so formal because more stuff can be quickly added.  Many of the notes/emails are interesting to read.  I will look forward to your memories CD.

Thanks,
Joe

Joe,

Thanks for the note.  Yes, I have been to your web site and have linked to it from the bottom of our main web page.  You guys are much more professional than I am, so congrats on such a sharp looking site!

I would not use any special software for these things since most of the folks can barely understand email and browsers.  Of course, it is possible to do a PowerPoint presentation if a viewer can be included.

I will send you a CD gratis, which is what I plan to do for my classmates.  I am sure it will not be very fancy, but I plan to produce them myself and specialize each per the individual, to the extent feasible.  For example, I will probably put their picture on the CD label.   More of a brute force thing, requiring extra time.

Send me your address, else I will check your site for it.

Charlie

Charlie,
Been enjoying your web site.  I have volunteered to put Amphi Class of '63 Reunion CD together and am interested in details of your plans for Class of '62 CD.  I will continue to monitor the web but would be interested in any info you can share about technical issues such as software (like PowerPoint, etc.) that you plan to use, format, who will reproduce, etc.  No hurry but would like to be in the loop and would like to buy one copy when finished.  I have been doing the copying and scanning for all the photos on our web site, Rick Geiger is our webmaster.

Visit our web site at:  http://www.webreflections.org/amphi63reunion/ if you already haven't seen it.
Thanks, Joe Frannea
