Good morning, Charlie,
Hope Ginny is having a good day -
thankful surgery is over and now it's on to the healing process. God is good!!
Sherri Zeller sent me an email
asking if you're still adding info on your website. I know you said there's something on facebook
but not everybody goes there (Sherri & I for two of those
'everybody'). Could you possibly add
these to the official website in your spare time? Suzanne Bellinger (3-2-10), Ron Cummings
(3-28-09), Larry Seal (4-6-10) and Mrs. Elsie Sullivan = 92 yrs. old (5-10-10).
We're getting ready to 'get out of
Dodge' for the summer, heading east this year.
We'll be going on a SMART caravan (retired military RV group) in August
for 18 days. We start in Gettysburg and
cover that and the Amish areas. Then we
go over to Washington, DC to check out the memorials and a tour of
Annapolis. Sure hope we don't run in to
O. while we're there........ Glenn Beck
is having a rally at the Lincoln Memorial - my cousin said that it's one of the
last permits granted so I don't know what that's all about. The caravan group is having a Glenn Miller
concert that night but some are going to the rally. I'm tempted.....
Take good care of your patient -
she'll heal faster!!

CHARLIE,
I did not see any flyer attachment, so you may have to try again! Did you
ever get it? No doubt you did by now.
.....
Whenever are you two going to retire and enjoy life? I just got back from
an Alaskan cruise with my traveling friend who lives in Mesa. Of course
we got our husbands' blessings before buying the tickets - folks on the ship
got tickled when we told them we left our husbands' at home!!

Nancy,
Thanks for the note. Ginny got in last night and, yes, she did shop a
bit! I got 3 hats out of the deal!
At this point it does not look like we will be coming to the 60th
reunion. October is a bad month for school teachers to get away, and
Ginny is still up to her neck in teaching as a Reading Specialist. I
would have to come on my own, I suspect, something that I am not inclined to do,
as much as it would be neat.
Have fun on the trip! It is something you will most likely enjoy
regardless of the gas prices. We can post pictures to your class page, if
you send them. I would be glad to scan them if you are having problems
with that. (You can adjust your resolution to about 300x300 pixels/inch,
which gives enough detail for most things, although 600x600 pixels would be
better, but too big a file. I use about 150x150 for some black and
whites, such as for the yearbook pictures.)

I checked the SMARTS roster and there isn't a Plaut listed. Maybe they're with
Tracks to Adventure. This one is Special Military Active-Retired Travel Club
(SMARTS). Wouldn't you know Ron would agree to going when the price of fuel is
so high!! I've been trying 3 years to get him interested. I ran into Linda Foss
and her husband (retired from Air or Army Guard) at the Base Exchange last week
and they went to Alaska last year and had a wonderful time.
Hope Ginny had a good time in Australia. Of course she did the shopping thing
too!! We would like to do the New Zealand/Australia trip someday. I believe Jim
& Jeannie Crowninshield went there last year.
Did I understand someone to say that you won't be coming to the 60th Birthday

Good morning,
I'm supposed to be balancing the check book.........But thought I'd send you a thank you before starting that nasty chore!! Sherri just wrote and
wondered how I found out about Kathie. A neighbor/friend had a gathering last Sunday and Mildred Horn was there - she taught P.E. at L.M. Prince
and was our boys' teacher. She's a friend of Kathie's and told me she had just had back surgery and is on medical leave from the demo company
she works for (at Sam's Club). Told her I'd pass it along to the classmates and she thought that would give Kathie a lift while recuperating.
Ron's sister lives in Visalia so we're not concerned about her - yet!! I think that's too far north to worry about. Sure hope Ron & Jan weren't
affected - fire's a scary thing. But then don't you wonder about the folks who died thinking their homes wouldn't be in the path of the
fire??!! It's like the old man refusing to leave his home when Mount St. Helen's blew!! I'm not too sure if I'd rather have hurricanes or fires?!
Was your summer home affected by the last hurricane?
Yesterday I received an e-mail from Nancy (Foster) Mettler - she's retiring Nov. 14th as a principal in CA. She and some friends are taking
a cruise in Dec. and will be passing through the Panama Canal! She's worked hard - it's a well-deserved trip. And she's looking forward to
receiving that pension check in the mail!!
Thanks again for forwarding the note.

Subject: Smart Tips
You may be smart enough to know these pointers but there will be
somewhere you will go "hmm I must remember that."
After reading, forward it to someone you care about, never hurts to be careful
in this crazy world we live in.
1. Tip from Tae Kwon Do: The elbow is the strongest point on your body. If you
are close enough to use it, do!
2. Learned this from a tourist guide to New Orleans: If a robber asks for your
wallet and/or purse, DO NOT HAND IT TO HIM. Toss it away from you ... chances
are that he is more interested in your wallet and/or purse than you
and he will go for the wallet/purse. RUN LIKE MAD IN THE OTHER DIRECTION!
3. If you are ever thrown into the trunk of a car: Kick out the back tail
lights and stick your arm out the hole and start waving like crazy. The driver
won't
see you but everybody else will. This has saved lives, except in Sikeston
where they think this is just someone making a hand signal for a turn.
4. Women have a tendency to get into their cars after shopping, eating,
working, etc., and just sit (doing their checkbook, or making a list,
etc. DON'T DO THIS! The predator will be watching you, and this is the
perfect opportunity for him to get in on the passenger side, put a gun to your
head, and tell you where to go. AS SOON AS YOU GET INTO YOUR CAR, LOCK THE
DOORS AND LEAVE.
5. A few notes about getting into your car in a parking lot, or parking garage:
A.) Be aware: look around you, look into your car, at the passenger side floor,
and in the back seat.
B.) If you are parked next to a big van, enter your car from the passenger door.
Most serial killers attack their victims by pulling them into their vans while
the women are attempting to get into their cars.
C.) Look at the car parked on the driver's side of your vehicle, and the
passenger side. If a male is sitting alone in the seat nearest your car, you
may want to walk back into the mall, or work, and get a guard/policeman to walk
you back out. IT IS ALWAYS BETTER TO BE SAFE THAN SORRY. (And better
paranoid than dead.)
6. ALWAYS take the elevator instead of the stairs.(Stairwells are horrible
places to be alone and the perfect crime spot).
7. If the predator has a gun and you are not under his control, ALWAYS
RUN! The predator will only hit you (a running target) 4 in 100 times;
And even then, it most likely WILL NOT be a vital organ. RUN!
8. As women, we are always trying to be sympathetic: STOP IT! It
may get you raped, or killed. Ted Bundy, the serial killer, was a
good-looking, well educated man, who ALWAYS played on the sympathies
of unsuspecting women. He walked with a cane, or a limp, and
often asked "for help" into his vehicle or help with his
vehicle, which is when he abducted his next victim.

The Laugh
The Choir Top 10
Top Ten Reasons for Being a Tenor:
10) Tenors get high -- without drugs.
9) Name a musical where the bass got the girl.
8) You can show the sopranos how it SHOULD be sung.
7) Did you ever hear of anyone paying $1000 for a ticket to see The Three
Basses?
6) Who needs brains when you've got resonance?
5) Tenors never have to waste time looking through the self-improvement section
of the bookstore.
4) You sing along with John Denver singing "Aye Calypso."
3) When you get really good at falsetto, you can make tons of money doing
voice-overs for cartoon characters
2) Gregorian chant was practically invented for tenors. Nobody invented a genre
for basses.
1) You can entertain your friends by impersonating Julia Child.
---
Top Ten Reasons for Being a Bass:
10) You don't have to tighten your shorts to reach your note.
9) You don't have to worry about a woman stealing your job.
8) Or a pre adolescent boy.
7) Action heroes are always basses. That is -- if they ever sang, they would
sing bass.
6) You get great memorable lyrics like bop, bop, bop, bop.
(boong ching ... boong chi-ching)
5) If the singing job doesn't work out, there's always broadcasting.
4) You never need to learn to read the treble clef.
3) If you get a cold, so what.
2) For fun, you can sing at the bottom of your range and fool people into
thinking there's an earthquake.
1) If you belch while you're singing, the audience just thinks it's part
of the score.
---
Top Ten Reasons for Being a Soprano:
10) The rest of the choir exists just to make you look good.
9) You can entertain your friends by breaking their wine glasses.
8) Can you name an opera where an alto got the man?
7) When sopranos sing in the shower, they know the tune.
6) You are never going to sing the alto part by accident.
5) Great costumes -- like the hat with the horns on it.
4) How many world famous altos can you name?
3) When the fat lady sings, she's usually singing soprano.
2) When you get tired of the tune, you can sing the descant.
1) You can sing along with Michael Jackson.
---
Top Ten Reasons for Being an Alto
10) You get really good at singing E flat.
9) You get to sing the same note for 12 consecutive measures.
(tang ... tang ... tang ...)
8) No warm up needed to sing 12 consecutive bars of E flat.
7) If the choir really stinks, it's unlikely the altos will be blamed.
6) You have lots of time to chat during soprano solos.
5) You get to pretend that you are better than the sopranos, because everybody
knows that women only sing soprano so they don't have to learn to read music.
4) You can sometimes find part time work singing tenor.
3) Altos get all the great intervals.
2) When the sopranos are holding some outrageously high note at the end of an
anthem, the altos always get the last words.
1) When the altos miss a note, nobody gets hurt.

Nancy,
Well, glad to help a little. You can also reduce the size of your digital
camera shots in a couple ways.
Since I assume you do not want to just use the less enhanced picture setting on
your camera (my digital Kodak has one star for low quality, two stars for
intermediate quality, and three stars for high quality, all selectable from the
Menu), you can still reduce the size of the resulting .jpg files. You
might have this capability in your scanner software rather than in your camera
software. If you use your scanner graphics program to open a .jpg file
from your camera, you can first crop it to use only the parts that are worth
keeping, but you should also be able to save it (Save As) as a reduced quality
.jpg file using options in the Save As dialog. It is already a .jpg (most
likely), but the dialog box probably has an Options or Details button that
opens up a Slider dialog box. I usually reduce the files to 50 percent,
which still makes most pictures very acceptable. .jpg files are called
"loosey" files because you can "loose" at lot of detail and
not even notice.
Other ways of reducing the files size from your graphics software are to edit
the image size and (possibly at the same time) reduce the number of pixels per
inch. Many pictures look good on a computer screen with only 100 pixels
per inch (down to about 72), and the printed versions are usually pretty good
at either 150 or 200 pixels per inch. You can do 300 or 600 pixels per
inch, but those can be big files. In any case, if you experiment around,
you should be able to get most pictures to less than 100kb.
Glad to hear that the fire is under control. I suspect Mt Lemon and
Sabino Canyon will be bleak for a couple years.
Best,
Charlie

Thanks. A great cartoon!
I guess your personal note means you would rather I not post this to your web
page?
BTW: When you scan stuff, you can select the specific area of the scanner
surface that you want to scan. This would make your files a lot
smaller. Use PREVIEW and the selection option (usually drag the cursor
from corner to opposite corner) to box in what you really are trying to scan.

It was late at night and Heidi, who was

outage at the time, only one paramedic
responded to the call.
The house was very dark so the paramedic
asked Kaetlyn to hold a

he helped deliver the baby.
Very diligently, Katelyn did as she was

little while Connor was born.
The paramedic lifted him by his little feet
and spanked him on his bottom.
Conner began to cry.
The paramedic then thanked Katelyn for her

Laugh & Lift Daily Issue for Jan 24, 2003
=========================================
*Thought for Today*
"Forgiving means giving up on getting

*The Laugh*
The Difference Between Men and Women
Let's say a guy named Roger is attracted to a woman named Elaine. He asks her out to dinner; she accepts; they have a pretty good time. A few nights later he asks her out again; and again they enjoy themselves. They continue to see each other regularly, and after a while neither one of them is seeing anybody else.
And then, one evening when they're driving home, a thought occurs to Elaine, and, without really thinking, she says it aloud: "Do you realize that, as of tonight, we've been seeing each other for exactly six months?"
And then there is silence in the car.
To Elaine, it seems like a very loud silence. She thinks to herself: I wonder if it bothers him that I said that. Maybe he's been feeling confined by our relationship; maybe he thinks I'm trying to push him into some kind of obligation that he doesn't want, or isn't sure of.
And Roger is thinking: Wow! Six months.
And Elaine is thinking: But, hey, I'm not so sure I want this kind of relationship, either. Sometimes I wish I had a little more space, so I'd have time to think about whether I really want us to keep going the way we are, moving steadily toward... I mean, where are we going? Are we just going to keep seeing each other at this level of intimacy? Are we heading toward marriage? Toward children? Toward a lifetime together? Am I ready for that level of commitment? Do I really even know this person?
And Roger is thinking: So, that means it was... let's see... February when we started going out, which was right after I had the car at the dealer's, which means...let me check the odometer... Whoa! I am way overdue for an oil change here.
And Elaine is thinking: He's upset. I can see it on his face. Maybe I'm reading this completely wrong. Maybe he wants more from our relationship, more intimacy, more commitment; maybe he has sensed, even before I sensed it, that I was feeling some reservations. Yes, I bet that's it. That's why he's so reluctant to say anything about his own feelings. He's afraid of being rejected.
And Roger is thinking: And I'm going to have them look at the transmission again. I don't care what those morons say, it's still not shifting right. And they better not try to blame it on the cold weather this time. What cold weather? It's 87 degrees and this thing is shifting like a garbage truck, and I paid those incompetent thieves $600.
And Elaine is thinking: He's angry. And I don't blame him. I'd be angry, too. I feel so guilty, putting him through this, but I can't help the way I feel.
I'm just not sure.
And Roger is thinking: They'll probably say it's only a 90-day warranty... idiots.
And Elaine is thinking: Maybe I'm just too idealistic, waiting for a knight to come riding up on his white horse, when I'm sitting right next to a perfectly good person, a person I enjoy being with, a person I truly do care about, a person who seems to truly care about me. A person who is in pain because of my self-centered, schoolgirl romantic fantasy.
And Roger is thinking: Warranty? They'd better not say its only a 90-day warranty.
"Roger," Elaine says aloud.
"What?" says Roger, startled.
"Please don't torture yourself like this," she says, her eyes beginning to brim with tears. "Maybe I should never have... Oh my, I feel so... (She breaks down, sobbing.)
"What?" says Roger.
"I'm such a fool," Elaine sobs. "I mean, I know there's no knight. I really know that. It's silly. There's no knight, and there's no horse."
"There's no horse?" says Roger.
"You think I'm a fool, don't you?" Elaine says.
"No!" says Roger, glad to finally know the correct answer.
"It's just that...it's that I...I need some time," Elaine says.
There is a 15-second pause while Roger, thinking as fast as he can, tries to come up with a safe response. Finally he comes up with one that he thinks might work. "Yes," he says.
Elaine, deeply moved, touches his hand. "Oh, Roger, do you really feel that way?" she says.
"What way?" says Roger.
"That way about time," says Elaine.
"Oh," says Roger. "Yes."
Elaine turns to face him and gazes deeply into his eyes, causing him to become very nervous about what she might say next, especially if it involves a horse. At last she speaks.
"Thank you, Roger," she says.
"Thank you," says Roger.
Then he takes her home, and she lies on her bed, a conflicted, tortured soul, and weeps until dawn.
When Roger gets back to his place, he opens a bag of Doritos, turns on the TV, and immediately becomes deeply involved in a rerun of a tennis match between two Czechoslovakians he never heard of. A tiny voice in the far recesses of his mind tells him that something major was going on back there in the car, but he is pretty sure there is no way he would ever understand what, and so he figures it's better if he doesn't think about it.
The next day Elaine will call her closest friend, or perhaps two of them, and they will talk about this situation for six straight hours. In painstaking detail, they will analyze everything she said and everything he said, going over it time and time again, exploring every word, expression, and gesture for nuances of meaning, considering every possible ramification. They will continue to discuss this subject, off and on, for weeks, maybe months, never reaching any definite conclusions, but never getting bored with it, either.
Meanwhile, Roger, while playing racquetball one day with a mutual friend of his and Elaine's, will pause just before serving, frown, and say, "Norm, did Elaine ever own a horse?"
And that's the difference between men and women.

Re: AMPHI RE: Question
Good Morning,
Just a quickie. I need to point out
that I didn't put the 30th reunion book together. Larry Vance did and he
did a fantastic job - liked the
idea of the yearbook pictures in the beginning
of the book and current pictures in the back. Felt bad that in this
reunion book the memorium list wasn't complete. Next time.......
Have a good day.

Subject: "W" in Christmas
"W" in Christmas
Each December, I vowed to make Christmas a calm and peaceful experience. I had cut back on nonessential obligations - extensive card writing, endless baking, decorating, and even overspending. Yet still, I found myself exhausted, unable to appreciate the precious family moments, and of course, the true meaning of Christmas.
My son, Nicholas, was in kindergarten that
year. It was an exciting season for a six year old. For weeks, he'd been
memorizing songs for his school's "Winter Pageant." I didn't have the
heart to tell him I'd be working the night of the production. Unwilling to miss
his shining moment, I spoke with his teacher. She assured me there'd be a dress
rehearsal the morning of the presentation. All parents unable to attend that
evening were welcome to come then. Fortunately, Nicholas seemed happy with the
compromise.
So, the morning of the dress rehearsal, I filed in ten minutes early, found a spot on the cafeteria floor and sat down. Around the room, I saw several other parents quietly scampering to their seats. As I waited, the students were led into the room. Each class, accompanied by their teacher, sat cross-legged on the floor. Then, each group, one by one, rose to perform their song. Because the public school system had long stopped referring to the holiday as "Christmas," I didn't expect anything other than fun, commercial entertainment - songs of reindeer, Santa Claus, snowflakes and good cheer. So, when my son's class rose to sing, "Christmas Love," I was slightly taken aback by its bold title. Nicholas was aglow, as were all of his classmates, adorned in fuzzy mittens, red sweaters, and bright snowcaps upon their heads. Those in the front row - center stage - held up large letters, one by one, to spell out the title of the song. As the class would sing "C is for Christmas," a child would hold up the letter C. Then, "H is for Happy," and on and on, until each child holding up his portion had presented the complete message, "Christmas Love."
The performance was going smoothly, until suddenly, we noticed her; a small, quiet, girl in the front row holding the letter "M" upside down - totally unaware her letter "M" appeared as a "W". The audience of 1st through 6th graders snickered at this little one's mistake. But she had no idea they were laughing at her, so she stood tall, proudly holding her "W".
Although many teachers tried to shush the children, the laughter continued until the last letter was raised, and we all saw it together. A hush came over the audience and eyes began to widen. In that instant, we understood the reason we were there, why we celebrated the holiday in the first place, why even in the chaos, there was a purpose for our festivities.
For when the last letter was held high, the message read loud and clear: "CHRISTWAS LOVE" And, I believe, He still is.
ODE TO THE REUNION.......
Every five years, as
summertime nears,
An announcement arrives in
the mail,
"A reunion is planned;
it'll be really grand;
Make plans to attend without
fail."
I'll never forget the
first time we met;
We tried so hard to impress.
We drove fancy cars, smoked
big cigars,
And wore our most elegant
dress.
It was quite an affair;
the whole class was there.
It was held at a fancy
hotel.
We wined and we dined and we
acted refined,
And everyone thought it was
swell.
The men all conversed
about who had been first
To achieve great fortune and
fame.
Meanwhile, their spouses
described their fine houses
And how beautiful their
children became.
The homecoming queen, who
once had been lean,
Now weighed in at
one-ninety-six.
The jocks who were there had
all lost their hair,
And the cheerleaders could
no more do kicks.
No one had heard about
the class nerd
Who'd guided a spacecraft to
the moon;
Or poor little Jane, who'd
always been plain;
She married a shipping
tycoon.
The boy we'd decreed
"most apt to succeed"
Was serving ten years in the
pen,
While the one voted
"least" now was a priest;
Shows you can be wrong now
and then.
They awarded a prize to
one of the guys
Who seemed to have aged the
least.
Another was given to the
grad who had driven
The farthest to attend the
feast.
They took a class
picture, a curious mixture
Of beehives, crew cuts and
wide ties.
Tall, short or skinny, the
style was the mini;
You never saw so many
thighs.
At our next get-together,
no one cared whether
They impressed their
classmates or not.
The mood was informal, a
whole lot more normal;
By this time we'd all gone
to pot.
It was held out-of-doors,
at the lake shores;
We ate hamburgers, coleslaw
and beans.
Then most of us lay around
in the shade,
In our comfortable T-shirts
and jeans.
By the fortieth year, it
was abundantly clear,
We were definitely over the
hill.
Those who weren't dead had
to crawl out of bed,
And be home in time for
their pill.
And now I can't wait; they've
just set the date;
Our fiftieth is coming, I'm
told.
It should be a ball, they've
rented a hall
At the Shady Rest Home for
the old.
Repairs have been made on
my hearing aid;
My pacemaker's been turned
up on high.
My wheelchair is oiled, my
teeth have been boiled;
And I've bought a new wig
and glass eye.
I'm feeling quite hearty,
I'm ready to party;
I'll dance 'til the dawn's
early light.
It'll be lots of fun; I just
hope there's one
Other person who gets there
that night.

(2) "Have you seen the

Recipe
Here is the dessert recipe that I mentioned. (I changed the name - it was Pretzel Salad but it's not a salad.)
PRETZEL SURPRISE
1st Layer
2 cups crushed pretzels (put pretzels into a
ziplock bag and use a rolling pin)
1 cup sugar
2 sticks butter or margarine, melted
In oblong pan put the sticks of butter or
margarine and melt in the microwave. Add sugar and pretzels; mix together
and then press together to form the bottom layer. (I used 2 - 8" round
glass baking dishes - 1 stick margarine, 1/2 c. sugar, 1 c. crushed pretzels in
each dish)
2nd Layer
1/2 cup sugar
16 oz. Cool Whip
12 oz. cream cheese, softened
Using an electric hand mixer beat the cream
cheese, add sugar, make sure ingredients are well mixed. Then beat in
Cool Whip. Mixture will become thick. Gently spoon over the 1st
layer and spread. Refrigerate while you make the 3rd layer.
3rd Layer
1/4 cup sugar
2 cans crushed pineapple (leave juice)
3 T. cornstarch
Mix together and cook until thickened - at
medium heat - takes approx. 10/15 min. Let set until it is completely
cool before spreading over the 2nd layer.
(Instead of using the pineapple mixture I used 1
can of cherry pie filling - don't add the sugar or cornstarch though - just
spread on top of Cool Whip mixture.)

Here are a couple pictures for your site. La Fuente is a digital print that I cropped and zoomed - first time I've made prints off the digital. Thought that was a nice picture of Skip Dotson's parents. Quite an accomplishment - married 60 yrs.!! My brother-in-law calls all of us that's been married to the same spouse (35+ years) an endangered species.
Have a good one!

Nancy,
I have cropped and uploaded the four pictures to the web site. At 100 dpi they are a little grainy, but can be made out. I assume you are giving the printers the originals.
I can send the originals for the 60 or so pictures that I scanned in to the web site, or many of them may be good enough to take off the web site. I am just not sure how all of this is being managed technically and what level of quality would be best.
We look forward to getting whatever pictures you have from La Fuente! We did not realize that you got the one of Ginny dancing on the table. We will pay full price for that one!
Thanks,

That's all for now. I do have some on my digital camera from Sun. night at La Fuente of Ginny dancing on the table.........As soon as I figure out how to download them, etc. I'll send them with the blackmail note!!

Charlie,
Glad you liked the Berry Good French Toast. Martha occasionally has a basic, realistic recipe.
Debbie from Southwest Planners said she'd be by Mon. or Thurs. to pick up the pictures I have of the reunion functions w/captions (people, events, etc.). Now do you want Charlie or Charles on the pictures of you?? Thought I'd check with you before sending them off with her. Wonder how long she needs them. I want to get pictures to people that ordered them.
It's been rainy and cool here the last 2 days. We took Ron's aunt and uncle to Catalina Foothills Church (Presbyterian) this morning. Rick Mellinger belongs and plays the drums - his wife is in their wonderful choir too. I spoke to him before the service and said I was going to listen for any wrong notes!! But he did good. Since today is Reformation Sunday the message was about Martin Luther breaking away from the Catholic Church and the reasons there was a Reformation. Most interesting. Ron's uncle is still Catholic but goes to any church his born again wife goes to - she was raised a Catholic also. It was new member Sunday and the pastor (from Dr. James Kennedy's church in Florida) had all the new members go up front and asked them what church they had come from - Methodist, Baptist, etc. Interesting to see how many different churches have lost members to this church!!!
Take care - stay warm!! And enjoy being able to go about your business!! So thankful they caught those perps!!

Hi Ginny,
Sorry it's taken so long to send this to you. Diana (Cleland) and Otto left the Monday morning after the reunion weekend and they were no sooner down to Oracle Road than I was headed out to work. A friend and I put together an estate sale for her lawyer friend. This lady lived in a very small 2 bedroom apartment and never cleaned it!! Needless to say we charged her a cleaning fee!! In the storage shed there were some old AZ paintings and some old books that we got $1,000 for so we didn't feel so bad charging that amount for cleaning!! Not too much was left over the second day so we were pleased. Ron helped on the day of the sale, too, writing up tickets.
Hope you had a nice time at the reunion. It's hard for the spouse because they don't usually know anyone. I enjoyed visiting with you at the reunion and picnic.
Here is the recipe that I fixed for our honored guests. Felt bad for them the following morning because it was a cereal/fruit and juice menu! It just dawned on me that I don't know the name of this recipe so let's just call it:
BERRY FRENCH TOAST
Combine in a bowl:
5 c.
berries (assorted - strawberries, raspberries, blueberries,
etc.) Can be frozen fruit and then thawed.
3/4
c. sugar
1
tsp. cinnamon
Pour into 9 x 13 glass dish.
1 16 oz. loaf french bread, sliced 1"
thick. Soak slices for 5 min. in:
5
eggs, beaten
1 c.
skim milk
1
tsp. vanilla
Place slices of soaked french bread over the
berries. Bake at 350
degrees for 25-30 min.
I did serve with syrup but you don't really
have to because there is some
juice in the bottom from the berries.
It's a real quickie to fix. Let me know
if you like it!

Nancy,
You can do it either way - scanning would probably be easier. I am just waiting to receive whatever pictures people want to send me. I suspect Jack is stating the obvious in that Ron's pictures should be a lot better than the ones I have so far.
If you can put the picture (I assume the picture of all the classmates) into a .jpg that is not too big, it should be fine attaching it to an email. I have no limits on size for my email attachments, but I am not sure about yours. I would be glad to post any and all pictures that you might want to send.
Sorry to hear about the leaks and other stress factors. When it rains it pours! Ginny and I are definitely caught up but busy. It was great to see everyone. Your tape is about to arrive, I think.

Hi Charlie,
Jack Curlin requested that we use the picture Ron took at the reunion for your website. Do you want me to send the actual picture or can I scan and send it to you?
This is the week my life should be back to normal but so far it doesn't look too good. Our washer sprung 2 (not 1) leaks so Ron has me going tomorrow for 2 hoses to replace the leaky ones. My co-worker with the estate sale we had this past weekend is coming over tomorrow and we're going to count the loot. And tomorrow morning I'm taking Ron's pictures of the Aidswalk down to TEP (that's his volunteer duty for TEP - whenever their employees volunteer for anything he takes the pictures). And I'm still trying to get the house put back together after having company.
Take me awaaaaay.............
Hope you and Ginny are back in the groove.
Take care.

Thanks, Charlie - it was fun!! I tried to reply with your list included but it wouldn't let me so here goes.
Keith Herring had to cancel - he's going to school in Hawaii. He had a rough summer. His wife died tragically in June. They own property in Bowie and she was going to town to meet an aunt (?). She was in her truck with their dog and had to pass through 2 gates in order to get to the main road. When she got to one of the gates she started to get out and her foot somehow jammed on the accelerator and she fell partially out and the truck lurched forward and jammed her between the truck and the gate? Her aunt (?) called a nephew to check on her because she didn't show up and he found her dead - so sad. The dog was sitting in the air conditioned truck. They figure she had been there about 3 hrs.
Also Gary Gibson was there too. Let me check to see if he's in the group picture - yep, he's there. I didn't even recognize him. He didn't actually graduate with us though.
Also include Ken Orms - he was there for a short time. Not sure why?? Made a showing on the other side of the room and then poof!!
The list looks great. Sheila and I are pleased with our new titles!!
Tried to call you but got a busy signal. Yes, we're still at 4309 N. Radin. Instead of having dessert at La Fuente you all should have come over here and had cake!!! The picnic was a blunder. Originally we were only going to do the Sat. night bash and then Sun. picnic but the planner talked us into having the Fri. night party. Which turned out great!
All your hard was much appreciated - the web page would win a prize.
Hope Scott takes his new job seriously (planning the 45th). Maybe we'll tell him he can do the 50th also?? On the 50th I'd like to work harder on contacting everyone possible - if they don't come that's their choice but want to let them know about it anyway. Out of 300 graduates 38 isn't very many (plus 2 who didn't graduate with us). Craig Hipple has always told me he's not going to a reunion until it's our 50th so at least he'll be there!! And then too I think the cost was a tad high. If we do it on our own it'll be much, much more affordable.
Diana and Otto left Mon. morning with Ron and I scooting to work after them. I've been really busy this week working on a small estate sale. Next week I'll send you your pictures. Hope things are back to normal by then........
Nancy
Nancy,
First, thanks again for volunteering to do so much for the reunion! It was a wonderful three days, in every way, much due to you and to Ron as well!
When you get a chance, please check my "marked up" classmate list (below) that annotates those who attended (happened to be 40 classmates?) with "40th Reunion Attendee" and who got what award. All the names from the web site are listed (including those who did not attend), plus I added those that I noticed who attended who were not yet on the site list, although I might have made errors. I would not want to make any silly mistakes and offend someone! I just need to know what to change or add. It may be close enough, but I may have missed adding someone....
Also, of course, I want to give you and Sheila a little recognition for your work, so let me know if you want me to change anything in that area.
Thanks!

RE: Question
Nancy,
I would envision Sunday as having to accommodate several items and considerations. Out of town folks may or may not have Monday off and may want to leave town before it gets too late. Ginny and I currently plan to stay until Monday AM and then fly back to Maryland.
I think we would want to plan on allowing for breakfast and church in the AM and picnicking and such from about 1 PM until 5 PM. If this is announced soon enough, people can make their travel arrangements with these times in mind.
If possible and appropriate, we should also check for a specific time to suggest for breakfast at the hotel for those staying there (and those others who might like to show up, even if not staying there). I would say breakfast at 9 AM off the top of my head (not a range of times). Those who want to go to church can then do so and get to the picnic without much problem. If enough people express interest in breakfast, perhaps the hotel can be better prepared and we can be better coordinated.
If we could ensure the hotel has church info, that would be helpful. Whether or not classmates who live in Tucson want to invite out of towners to attend their church might also be considered. This kind of arrangement might encourage a few more people to stop by the hotel for breakfast, on the way to church, and also increase church and picnic attendance.
These are only suggestions, of course, and there are probably other considerations. Thanks for your work on all of this!

Checked out ramadas today at Reid Park - 6
available for 35-40 people. #5 seems to be the nicest one ---
-- off of Randolph Way/22nd St and south west of
Zoo Admin Bldg
-- parking 40 ft or so from ramada
-- close restrooms
-- lots of grass and lots of room for
volleyball, badminton or horseshoes
(nothing can be set up
on soccer field)
-- four concrete tables under ramada with two
more close by
-- electrical outlets available (need short
extension cord if used)
-- large grill available
-- water fountain
-- lots of trash barrels
-- shade trees close to ramada (blankets, lawn
chairs or whatever)
-- playground near if grandchildren attend
-- NO ZOO odors
I looked at all the available ramadas and this one appears to be the nicest. Some are available off Country Club/Pincic Place but less shade, less grass, and no restrooms without a hike, and not much space for vollyball or horseshoes. Many ramadas appear to be "clustered" together and the #5 above is by itself - next ramada to the west is maybe 75ft away.
This ramada is much nicer than the one at Ft
Lowell.
Comments anyone ??? Need to get
reservation in soonest - $10 bucks and it's ours .............

RE: AMPHI Class Reunions classes 1961 and 1962
Nancy,
Thanks for the note. All is well here in Maryland. Sounds like you had fun in the Caribbean. I am also glad to hear that some thoughts and plans are coming together for the reunion attendees on Sunday. We can even finalize some of the details on Saturday, once we know how many people are likely to show up.
Yes, your involvement (and that of others, I am sure) in previous reunions was extraordinary, and it always involves a lot more effort than most people realize. It is regrettable that our enthusiasm is dampened somewhat by experience. Perhaps you would be pleased to know that some of the ideas from these Amphi 62 reunions have been copied and used by others. At least I am sure that the Hood College (Frederick, Maryland) Class of 1966 has used the picture nametag idea (and other ideas) since my wife Ginny usually runs/organizes/facilitates their reunions.
Kristen, class of 1961, is better known as Kristi Smith. She lives in/near Boulder Colorado. Apparently, their class missed some people (such as Kristen), as I suspect we will, so I believe it is appropriate to make each class feel welcome at the available functions, regardless of who is doing what when. Easy for me to say, I guess. Perhaps I am like Horatio Hornblower, another sailor just grateful to be alive at this point.
In any case, using the professional organizers is certainly appropriate, allowing all of the attendees to enjoy themselves as much as possible without being exposed to unnecessary stress, strain, and heart attacks. Most of the fun comes from just getting together, even if we all just had lunch together at McDonalds. Everything above that is icing on the cake, and we should only be doing the things that make it more fun for everyone, including the "volunteers" such as yourself who are so nice about coordinating some of the details.
Again, thanks for the note and the reunion insights/info/planning. It will be fun!

and 1962
Good Morning Charlie,
Thought I'd send off a quickie before running off to work.
The Class of 1961 did have a reunion last year after all. Herlinda Gastelum got it together out at Hidden Valley Inn. Sheila and I were going to sit in the lobby with binoculars and check people out but we changed our minds. Actually Sherri Zeller went with my brother-in-law (Larry/Shorty) so she has the scoop on who went. They had a good time.
We had considered 'joining forces' but instead there will be a blurb in the notice about their class having a reunion the same weekend. We're going to have a Sunday function at Reid/Randolph Park on Sunday. Not sure if they have shuffleboard courts though!! I asked Sheila to call about reserving a ramada with a baseball field in case anybody would like to have a softball game??? Also putting out a call for badmitton and volleyball sets. It should be good weather at that time.
Who is Kristen? Hope all is well in your neck of the woods. We just got back from a fantastic, trip of a life time, Caribbean cruise. WOW!! Now it's back to reality.
Nancy
P.S. I really did try to keep out of this reunion stuff this year but it keeps creeping in!!! No one wants to take the ball and run with it so that's why we went with the SW Reunion Planners. Now if you lived in Tucson you would be great to take it over!! Nancy
Nancy,
OK. I will put a note on my site regarding the update.
Yes, it is hard to imagine the loss of a spouse. One of our college friends recently lost his wife to an automobile vs dump truck accident, so we have been through it with their family.
Sunday should perhaps include a brunch or cookout/softball/volleyball/picnic together. People have to eat and play. Also, could go to a local tourist place together like the desert museum or sporting event, as available. For additional thought, perhaps a bus tour of Tucson as an update for the out-of-towners (and in-towners, for that matter). I also intend to bring along Art Twomey's nature videos for show and tell. Need to figure out logistics/VCR-TV and time/place for that.
Ron (now called Bill due to his real first name - William Ronald Jones) is still in Ontario, California as far as I know. He and wife Jan sometimes visit her folks near Tucson.
We could all go to the game (by bus?) in Sierra Vista or change the date to match a home game.
Regards,
Charlie

Hi Charlie,
The gal from SW Reunion Planners suggested that
you put a note on your
site that would indicate that what you're doing
is separate from the
Update that the Planners will be doing for
$15. Would that be possible?
Some folks have indicated they're confused about
the two. Your site sure
has attracted a lot of attention.
Wasn't that sad about Judy Boettcher losing
her husband. Glad she wrote
and let us know where she's at. Think I'll
have to look to see where
Peeples Valley is - never heard of it!!
Too bad there won't be a football game to
attend the night before the
reunion - it's in Sierra Vista. That would
have been fun.
Have you come up with any ideas about
Sunday? The Planners said that it
would be better if there was something planned
along with the reunion.
People don't want to come for just one thing.
Someone said they thought Ron (your brother) is back in Tucson. True?
Take care.
Nancy
Nancy,
There have been a few people whom I do not remember either, but they have come up under Classmates.com or somehow managed to send me email and indicated that they had spent time at Amphi as part of our class and wanted to receive info. I had one guy listed under Amphi 62 who turned out not to be, but I tend to err on the side of including anyone who thinks they are connected to our class however obscurely. They perhaps did not graduate with us so they are not in the year book.

There was no obit - question about his death since he was alone when he died. David said that Ron had arrhythmia and that maybe he got messed up with his medicine. Ron was divorced and had one son. David has an automotive repair shop up in Catalina with his brother and is quite happy. I gave him your email and site addresses so he'll be in touch. We're going to be leaving Friday and will be gone 3 months. Starting in Colorado (Julie de Azevedo Harlan and Ron's relatives) then on to OH, PA and the New England states for the fall foliage show. Nancy,
Wow, what a truck load of info, and on the fly yet! Great to hear from you. We are starting the reunion early via the internet, while we still have a lot of them around.
Seems like the email list is paying off if it gets you and Vicki together on reunion activities. I thought we had worn you out on this topic, but I am sure you have a lot of info to share with all of us. You and the other workers did such a wonderful job on previous reunions that anything for the 40th will probably seem to be subdued. Yet, with a couple of years of thinking and coordinating, we might be able to come up with a few unique ideas!
I do not know whether there is anyone else who is willing and able or who has already started an email web site or anything for the class. If so, we would need to consolidate or link across or something. We only have a few people on the list so far, but I am sure it will grow.
I just sent Ben a response to his email, in which he indicated that he has been participating with '61, so I will delete him from the list unless he asks to stay on it. It was somewhat fortuitous since Nina Irwin was asking about '61 info, so I am trying to get them together on that. Of course, it might make sense to be aware of what '61 is doing and, perhaps, trade any ideas back and forth. Perhaps Nina and Ben can liaison.
I have this movie that Art made and dedicated to his father. I might be getting another one, as well, from the people he was working with. The films might be handy to be used as part of the reunion activities.
By the way, I just love to go to estate sales and rummage around through someone else's stuff. Sounds like you are having fun!
Regards,
Charlie

Losey (plane crash 6-21-96), Judy Pierce, Mr. Pomeroy (3-17-95), Martin Terry
(didn't graduate with us but went to school with us for a while), Delia Alegria
(2-13-99). There may be others but haven't heard. And Sheila
McPherson (still single) is back in Tucson also. Her address is 2423 N.
Sonoita, Tucson, AZ 85712.
Actually Ben Kaiser should have been in the Class of '61. He's on our diploma information sheet but he didn't go through school with us - must have lacked credits or something.
I hadn't realized Vicki was working on the reunion - she hadn't contacted me.
Do have to run - don't want to be late for all that cleaning and pricing of 'stuff'!!!
Take care and keep me posted.
Nancy
