Charlie,

You may know this already, but Ted Wilson died last Sunday from cancer which had metastasized to his lungs. His e-mails about his worsening condition were matter-of fact, without a shred of self pity. I don't know how he remained so stoic and brave.

I know Jack Curlin and Jeannette kept in touch with him, and that Gary Kittell was a particular friend.
Nancy Wilson has asked those of us who were in touch with Ted to let everyone know. The funeral, with military honors, is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. Monday, August 28th at Leavenworth National Cemetery in Kansas. I don't have a home address for Nancy, Ted's wife, but her e-mail is nmwilson@kc.rr.com

How are you doing? Haven't heard from you on the class page fo r a long time hope all is well with you.

We are now living in Montreal, Canada, having moved up here for Paul 's job with Bombardier Lear Jet. It's an interesting and beautiful area.

Best,

June (Sherrill) Hunt

Charlie,

Sorry you won't be coming to the reunion, but understand how difficult it can be with schedules, etc.  I am going to try to make it, but don't know if Paul can, as he is usually loaded down at work, and has taken some vacation time already. I am looking forward to meeting Ginny one of these days, and to seeing you again.

Thanks for all the great work you do on our site.

June

June,

Thanks for the nice note.

I actually am surprised that it took so long for a hacker to be successful.  The site gets several attacks every day, since about 1997.  I am not particularly security conscious since there is nothing on the site of particular value, although email addresses are the most valuable and easily picked up.

This hacking event gave me a chance to simplify the Mail List environment, perhaps making it more user friendly.  I also deleted the Russian and Ukrainian language options, which may make it more difficult for a hacker comeback.  It is still possible that the hacker just used the Ukrainian IP address somehow (or the other obvious Shodan hints) to obscure the fact that he lives in the US, but he did go to a lot of trouble to not have to use English.

We are not likely to get to the October reunion, due mostly to the distance and having just flown out to the 40th in 2002, and since my wife Ginny works as a school teacher.

I am sure you and Paul are torn between class reunion stuff and just visiting family in Arkansas.  Jack really has got a good reunion thing going, especially good for people who missed the 40th two years ago.  The tour of the campus should be fun.  I think I will make it to the 45th reunion, at least (knock on wood), but we never know about life and need to do things when we still can!

Best regards,
Charlie

Charlie,
Thanks for the heads up.  I, too, received the "hacked by Shodan" message. But that boy didn't know who he was dealing with when he crossed swords with a techy like you who could hunt him down.
Just can't help but wonder why a person would go to the trouble to hack our little site, as it offers nothing but innocuous information about our class.
Thanks again.
Best wishes,
June

Charlie, I am sorry you may not make it to the reunion, but it is a long way from home. I don't know, as I mentioned earlier, if we will be able to make it either.

Got your snail mail address list, but don't see mine on there, so FYI, so here it is.

I hope you are the one I'm supposed to be sending this to, if not will you let me know?

Thanks June

Hey, Charlie,

Thanks for the class reunion info. I know it's a huge job keeping up with us all.  Paul and I will try to make it to the Oct. get-together, if we can. I will let you or Jack know for sure as soon as we find out what Paul's travel schedule looks like.

Best to you and your family.

June

Charles, what a humbling realization, that no one could remember the Prom Queen! Certainly gave me a grin, (and some chagrin.)
Didn't think you'd be able to tell much about your work, still it sounds mysterious and intriguing.

As to the cost of the tape, why should you bear it? I will send you five bucks ASAP, and thanks for all your work.

By the way, if Larry Vance or whomever is doing the computer graphics for the reunion needs any help, let me know. I am no guru of e-mail movies, but have had training in computer illustration.

Thanks for the info,
June

June,

Yes, we were unreasonably mature in high school, perhaps something that afflicts all young people so that they can blissfully face life's challenges.  I note that you were in a lot of high school organizations, so you were pretty busy.  I usually put the classmate's graduation picture on their page.  In your case I thought the prom queen picture would be appropriate as well.  This is particularly true due to the fact that the people at the reunion who participated in the "trivia contest" could not remember the name of the prom queen.

The Navy nuclear program is all classified, so not much is usually said about that arena.  I spent 13 years in the Navy nuclear propulsion program, working on surface ships rather than submarines.  I served on the aircraft carrier Enterprise during the Vietnam War, and I helped to build and test the nuclear plants on the aircraft carrier Nimitz in the early 70s.

I am currently working as a consultant to the Nuclear Regulatory Commission and the Department of Energy, doing technical inspections of nuclear facility safety systems and operations.  Well, at least that is what I am supposed to be doing, but the work has dried up a lot the last couple of years.  Happily, the nuclear power plants are probably getting safer all the time without my help.

I will make you a copy of the reunion tape (2 hours of various activities) and send it along shortly.  The cost is only five dollars (blank tape and postage), since you asked, but payment is optional.  I have sent out about 80 tapes, and only about 10 people have donated toward the costs.  The goal is to get the tapes out there and promote classmate interest in keeping in touch and in going to reunions.

Best,
Charlie

Charlie,

It was nice of you to include my old pictures from the high school year book. I lost my yearbook long ago, in one of the many moves. Strange to see how really young we were, though I remember thinking at the time that we were all so mature.
Read your bio and see that you are still doing consulting work on nuclear power plants. I have a friend who's husband did the same on nuclear subs. It is a type of work about which I know very little. Is it classified, or can you tell us what (in laymen's terms), you do?

Charlie,

Here's a picture taken of my husband Paul and myself at a family reunion last week in northern Kansas. Not too clear, but at least it's recent.

Been reading all the bios you have done, and it looks like you have put a lot of work into this. It's good that somebody in our class has taken it upon themselves to keep everybody connected. Should have known it would have been you.

Thanks,
June

Charlie,

Thank you for your quick reply!  I am amazed at all you and Jack are doing to keep the class of 1962 organized. A web page would be great! I will jpeg and scan in a recent photo of my husband and myself, just gotta find a photo from the last year or so. Does it seem like forty one years to you since we graduated? Sure doesn't to me.

I moved to Alaska in 1979, where I met my husband Paul (Hunt). He was a bush pilot at that time. I had opened a hair stying shop in Fairbanks and he came in for a haircut . Turned out to be the most expensive haircut the poor guy ever got, as we were married three months later.  That was twenty-four years ago, and he's still putting up with me.

We lived all over the place since then, including five  years in Saudi Arabia, the only five of the last forty that have gone slowly. During that same time, we bought a small farm in Arkansas and spent our vacations back here in the states remodeling the old farm house.
When we returned from Saudi, we operated an airport and flight courier service there in Arkansas, then moved to Tucson  for  a year or so, when Paul was hired as an instructor for Flight Safety.

About five years ago he went to work for Lear Jet, and and we spent three years in Kansas City. At present,  we are living in Wichita, KS, where he is manager of  Lear's Field Service department.

I am  taking classes in gerontology and fine art at Wichita State U. No particular goal in mind, just enjoy it. I paint portraits and wildlife, and teach a little art in the neighborhood.

We have a "blended" family, consisting of my daughter and Paul's two sons. They are all married, and live in Arkansas. We try to get down there to see them every couple of months.

Well, this is entirely too much info for one letter, but sure is great to hear from you, Jack, and Joyce Anderson. Hope to see everyone at the next reunion. Also sorry to hear about Art Toomey, he was a  very interesting guy and a true adventurer.

Be talking to you again soon.

My address: 324 N. Broadview St., Wichita, KS 67208

Regards,
June

June,

Yes, I remember you well.  It is so nice to hear from you!!  Sorry that we could not connect in time for you to make it to the reunion.  There are many pictures on the web site from the reunion (http://technidigm.org/amphi62reunion2002.htm), and I can send you a copy of the reunion tape if you give me your address.  We had a great time!

Also, I will start a web page for you with whatever bio info and pictures you would like to share, including family pictures, Christmas letter, recipes or whatever.  A good example of such a page is Jan Vecchio's page at http://technidigm.org/contacts/allenj.htm.

Subject: Class Reunion

Hi, Charlie, I am glad to find your web page! I am a classmate of yours from 1962. My maiden name was June Sherrill. I found your site on Classmates.com.and would like to add my name to your e-mail list. jhuntart at cox.net. I have talked to Bob Nichols fairly recently, and intended to see him when I was back in Tucson last, but my mother passed away during that time and I was not able to see him. Would love to see you all at the next reunion. Am very shocked and saddened to hear about George Jackson.
