Charlie,
Thanks for the prompt response. I served with the 137 Ordnance
Company in Okinawa. We stored and maintained just about all the
warhead sections that the Army was involved with at that time.
Interesting job and fortunately were never used. We had special
emergency evacuation and emergency destruction plans, which, in my
opinion were quite unrealistic to be ever implemented. Shortly
after I returned to the US, Okinawa reverted to Japan and the 137th was
converted to other activities. We also stored other special
classified conventional munitions that were ultimately shipped to and
used in Vietnam after the Pueblo was captured by the North
Koreans. Apparently the Pueblo was carrying classified info about
these munitions.
I obviously have a different opinion on the war in Iraq. I
strongly believe that we need to support the troops in Iraq, I would
hate to see them get the same treatment that the vets from Vietnam got
on returning to the US.
Glad to hear that you are well and working in such an interesting
field. I know that you probably can't talk much about what you
do.
Good luck,
Tom

Tom,
I apologize for sending you email you apparently would rather not
get. Please note that just because you get an email from me does
not mean that it went to the Amphi 62 Mailman or others in the
class. Unless an email actually has Amphi 62 in the headers, it
is not being sent to the 50 people on the class email list, at least
not from amphi62@technidigm.org.
If you would prefer not to get war-in-Iraq related emails forwarded to
you (I just forward military stuff to a very limited number of people I
think might like to get it, mostly people with military experience), I
will of course honor that.
I do not knowingly forward politics-related materials to anyone, but of
course that is sometimes a matter of perspective.
What kinds of nuclear weapons did you get involved with in the
Army? I am involved with nuclear weapons right now as a
contractor at the Department of Energy.
Best regards,
Charlie Jones

Follow-up from Richard Wesley
Hi all,
Just some
more info on Mike Webster and Mark Taff.
Everything that Richard
Wesley said is as I remember it about Mike Webster. Just one
more small fact, I attended a memorial service for Mike that was held
at St. Philip in the Hills Episcopal Church. I can't remember the
date, but is was very close to Christmas.
I still see
Mark Taff. He just recently retired from teaching with the Los
Angeles School District. He is married to Claudia and they have
one son Mathew who is in college now. He lives in El Segundo and
his e-mail is HuntermarkM@netscape.net.
I'm retired
and living in Big Bear City, CA and just love the mountains.
Regards,
Tom Wylie

Charlie, Sherri,
Thanks for keeping me updated on the Amphi
alumni.
It is always sad when one passes away. Sherri, I see from your
most
recent e-mail that you had spoken to Mr. Marshall. He was an
inspiration
to me while at Amphi by demanding the best, as I am sure that are
aware.
I would love to contact him and say thank you. Can you give me an
e-mail address or phone number where I could reach him?
Thanks,
Tom Wylie

Hi Charlie
I'm looking forward to attending the reunion in
September.
After graduating from the UofA in engineering I did
a
stint in the Army as a Nuclear Weapons officer, half of it
overseas.
I am currently working in the food industry for a small food
manufacturer
here in LA, Fruit a Freeze. I was very fortunate to be able to
take
a restructuring package from Nestle where I had worked for 24 years and
go from the largest food company to probably the smallest. I was
happily married for 15 years and have a great son who is a fireman in
Culver
city.
I can't wait to see the people
from
Amphi.

Hi,
Thanks for the message and update
on
the class of '62. I wasn't aware of all who have died since
graduation. I knew about Mike Webster as we were close in our
last
year at Amphi.
I'm looking forward to the
reunion.
See you there.
Tom
